Why Classroom Lockdown Kits Are Necessary

Classroom Lockdown

Hopefully, you'll never need to use a classroom lockdown survival kit. Having one in the classroom is a very good idea, though. There are plenty of emergencies that aren't cataclysmic in nature and that don’t involve situations as horrific as some of the most violent incidents that happen in schools. It's great to have a survival kit for these types of situations so that you're never without necessities.

Harsh Winters

If you live in an area where you have harsh winters, a classroom lockdown kit is a great thing to have available. There are conceivably situations where the school will be on lockdown because of bad weather and, if that happens, having food and other supplies will be necessary. If you're in charge of the classroom, it's much easier to calm the children down if you obviously have a plan and they can see as much. It helps them to have confidence in you and brings down the level of overall tension a great deal.

Food Security

Food will be necessary at some point. Adults can go quite a while without eating but, psychologically, it's important for children to know that they have food security. Chances are, many of them will have snacks with them, but many snacks are just hollow calories that burn off very quickly. Having food bars ensures that children have access to calories to keep them going.

The Basics - Light, Water and First Aid

A classroom lockdown kit may never end up being used. In bad weather, however, it's important to make sure you have basic supplies such as light sources, water purification tablets and a first aid kit. If you have these on hand, you're ready to handle the majority of situations and, if the lockdown ends up going on for a long time, you don't have to worry about running out of the necessities and about your students being miserable.
